For over 40 years, this cherished venue has been home to 172 seats, bringing the magic of performance to our community and beyond with productions in English, Greek, and various other languages.
As we move into a new era, THESPIS Theater has blossomed into a dynamic hub for the arts, offering exceptional learning experiences in theater, film, acting, philosophy, history, and music.
Under the visionary leadership of our new Artistic Director, Alexandros Ammohostianos, since January 2022, we have embraced an inclusive and outward-looking approach, welcoming the diverse cultural landscape of New York City with open arms.
The THESPIS Theater and the Hellenic Cultural Center NYC have become a magnetic force for artists throughout the New York tri-state area and beyond. In recent years, we have transformed into a cradle of culture and creativity, with our influence reaching far beyond the vibrant streets of New York and resonating across the United States.

Welcome to the Thrilling World of Thespis Theater’s Evening Acting School!
As we embark on our exciting third year, we are ecstatic to announce the launch of six vibrant courses tailored for aspiring actors aged 8 to 108! Our classes will be held at the dynamic UWS in Manhattan and the Thespis Theater in Astoria, New York.

The center and its management are proud to host numerous productions (film, theater, etc.) within the cultural center. Our goal is to maximize the exposure of our students, giving them invaluable experience in the field.

HELLENIC CULTURAL CENTER NYC
The HELLENIC CULTURAL CENTER NYC on 25-02 Newtown Ave,
Queens, NY 11102, was established in 1985 in its current location, in Astoria New York, through the efforts, dedication and commitment of members of the Hellenic (Greek) American Community and the spiritual guidance and leadership of Archbishop lakovos.
The two-level structure consists of the 172 seat “THESPIS THEATER”, the 55 seat NEWTOWN Stage , a lobby area, the 1,400 square-foot AEGEAN HALL (lobby/exhibit area), the Nikos Andriotis Reading Rehearsing room, classrooms, offices, and a small library.
The mission of the HELLENIC CULTURAL CENTER NYC is to promote Hellenic (Greek) culture, language and civilization, while supporting the arts (Hellenic and not only) in Astoria and New York.
The Center pursues its mission by producing, sponsoring, and hosting a variety of programs and events, often in collaboration with other educational and cultural organizations, including a number within the Greek American and Philhellenic communities.
The HELLENIC CULTURAL CENTER NYC presence and role is crucial to the cultural life of Astoria Queens New York and the Hellenic-American community at the Tri-State Area. It is one of the three institution in the area with a mission to promote Hellenic culture and language and with the infrastructures to carry out that mission. As such, the Center fits seamlessly into New York’s cultural and intellectual environment.
